Paintless dent repair, or PDR, is a different job from a conventional dent repair, not a faster version of it. It only applies when the paint over the dent is fully intact: no crack, no chip, nothing scratched through to bare metal. Because the finish was never broken, there is nothing to fill and nothing to refinish. A technician accesses the back of the panel and massages the metal from behind with specialized tools until the original contour returns, without touching the factory paint at all.
That makes PDR the right call for the kind of everyday damage a car picks up just sitting in a parking lot: a door ding from the car parked too close, a shopping cart crease along a rear quarter panel, or scattered hail dimples across a hood and roof after a storm. In every one of those cases the sheet metal moved but the clear coat and color coat underneath stayed put.
Keeping the factory finish untouched matters beyond how the panel looks. A panel that has never been repainted carries its original factory finish, which is worth noting on a vehicle's history since it shows nothing underneath was ever disturbed. That is the appeal of PDR over a repaint whenever it is genuinely an option.
